TRAINING EQUIPMENT: FURTHER INFORMATION

Fins
Add fins training and the increased load they add to the legs means that as long as exertion levels remain high, the cardiovascular system gets an even more intense workout with even greater fitness benefits. Swimming or kicking with fins forces ankle extension during the power phase (pushing down when swimming freestyle) of the kick. Repeated fin use eventually stretches the ankles, increasing their flexibility for moving in all directions and helping the kick become more propulsive and efficient. One of the goals of swimming faster with fins is to swim faster when the fins are taken off! By transferring the feeling of swimming faster and higher with fins to swimming without them, a swimmer makes use of a phenomenon known as neuromuscular patterning. The muscles and the nerves can actually remember the feeling of swimming faster and will try to duplicate the pattern the next time out. Kicking with fins is like lifting weights: the added resistance of the water on the blade of the fin increases the workload on your leg muscles.

Finis Snorkel
The training snorkel allows swimmers to concentrate on body balance, head position and stroke technique by eliminating the breathing cycle rotation. Breathing through a snorkel while swimming, increases the capacity of the lungs to expel air, required for optimal intake of oxygen. Regular snorkel training increases CO2 tolerance and VO2 max, as well as when used together with the cardio cap, provides equivalent benefits associated with altitude training. This patented front-mount design swimmer’s snorkel can be worn with any standard swimming goggle.

Hand Paddles
Builds strength without excess shoulder stress. Teaches proper stroke technique. Catches water quicker on the entry phase of the stroke than traditional paddles. Forms hand to proper position. Provides maximum water feel. Mariner coaches ask that swimmers take off the wrist band on the paddles
